Wessex Sustainability Report 2022

Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle.

About the report

“Our current path of innovation means we can invest in sustainability”

Welcome to the Wessex Cleaning Equipment Sustainability Report. Our team believe in taking responsibility for our impact on the environment, and we are committed to doing our part to create a sustainable future.

As the world faces pressing environmental challenges, such as climate change, resource depletion, and pollution, we understand the importance of taking action to reduce our environmental impact.

In this report, we will outline our sustainability initiatives and progress over the past year. We will also discuss the key environmental issues facing the world and how are working to address them.

Our report will cover a range of topics, including greenhouse gas emissions, waste reduction, water conservation, and supply chain sustainability.

Our key achievements so far

Become 100% renewably powered for all fuels
Reduce paper consumption by 40% to save 3.5T Co2e by the end of 2022
Introduce a suit of state-of-the-art digital systems
Investigate alternative materials sustainable manufacturing
Gain the Planet Mark Certification
Improve our supplier compliance system to deliver more sustainable products to market

Our Carbon footprint

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (primarily carbon dioxide) that are produced directly or indirectly by an individual, organisation, event, or product. It is essentially a measure of the impact that human activities have on the environment in terms of climate change.

It is important to monitor and reduce our Co2 because climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face today, and reducing carbon emissions is critical in mitigating its effects. The more carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases we release into the atmosphere, the more the planet warms, and the more severe the impacts of climate change become, including rising sea levels, more frequent and severe weather events, and loss of biodiversity.

By calculating our carbon footprint and taking steps to reduce it, we can each contribute to the global effort to reduce carbon emissions and help prevent the worst effects of climate change. It can also help individuals and organizations identify areas where they can make changes to reduce their impact on the environment, such as by reducing energy use, choosing low-carbon transportation options, and supporting sustainable practices.

Carbon Reduction Plan

The fight against climate change is a battle that we cannot afford to lose. It’s a race against time to limit the catastrophic effects of global warming, and we must act now to reduce our carbon footprint. That’s why we’re proud to announce that our current reduction targets are in line with our ambitious goals to become carbon neutral by 2028 and net-zero by 2040.

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

We’re thrilled to report that since our 2021 baseline, we’ve made significant progress in our commitment to environmental sustainability. Thanks to a range of environmental management measures and projects, we’ve achieved a 6.4% reduction in carbon emissions, equivalent to 12.4 tCO2e. One of the most exciting developments has been the introduction of electric vehicles, which now make up a whopping 26% of our fleet.

Our Suppliers

We recognise the importance of working with our suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint of their products and improve supply chain transparency.

Through collaboration and data sharing, our suppliers aim to identify areas for improvement and implement sustainable solutions. By working in partnership with our suppliers, we are creating a circular economy for our customers. Our suppliers are committed to reducing waste and ensuring that resources are used efficiently.

Our Initiatives

We offer many product ranges in a recycled varient to reduce the environmental impact in manufacturing.

The recycled range of consumables is made from raw materials that are carefully selected using recovered fibres and cellulose from supply chains based on recognized sustainability criteria.

We reuse cardboard boxes from our suppliers to package new orders to reduce the need for new ones and to reduce waste.

Certifications

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We’re committed to offering a wide selection of ecofriendly and recyclable products to meet your every need.

We’re driven by two major issues that are close to our hearts. Firstly, we’re passionate about eliminating single use plastics and fighting against the growing levels of plastic pollution in the world. Secondly, we’re dedicated to reducing our consumption of fossil fuels, which are used to generate electricity for producing single-use items and powering machinery.

We take great pride in ensuring that our products are sustainable and environmentally friendly, and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve our offerings. By choosing our products, you can be confident that you’re making a positive impact on the planet while still enjoying high-quality and functional items.

Packaging & Waste

Reducing cardboard waste is crucial because it contributes to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and landfill waste. By adopting sustainable packaging practices and using recycled or biodegradable materials, we can reduce our environmental impact, conserve natural resources, and save money on waste disposal costs.

100% of cardboard that enters our facility is reused for packaging

We use a responsible and local company to collect and recycle our cardboard waste

All packaging recycled has been reused and is no longer usable

To reduce waste, we reuse cardboard from our suppliers for orders and storage

All procured cardboard is made from recycled materials

Reducing SUP’s in our supply chain

Plastic has become a ubiquitous part of our daily lives, and singleuse plastics such as straws, water bottles, and food packaging are no exception. However, the convenience of these items comes at a significant cost to the environment. Single-use plastics have a devastating impact on the planet, contributing to pollution, climate change, and harm to wildlife.

0% of our waste goes to Landfill!

99% of all UK local authorities now offer collections for plastic bottles to local recycling facilities

We can optimise the lifespan of plastics by re-using and recycling items as many times as possible
